The State of Society (US)
Special Comment:
America has always touted itself as a country of cultural diversity and individual freedoms. Whether it was tackling race, equality or sex the United States was/has been the poster child for societal discourse and to a lessor extent social dysfunction. It took war before we ended slavery, some semblance of equality (women/minorities) would take a little over a CENTURY and now with homosexuality well, no real end is in site. We all try to tell ourselves, “this does not happen anymore” or “its better then it use to be” but in actuality there is a lot more of it going on then we would like to admit. Sure progress has been made, and we should be proud of that but we should not let that pride BLIND us from the larger picture. Racism, Sexism and Bigotry are not only present in our society today, it has become harder to suss out since people are more dubious with its use. In this technological age, where an Avatar can shield intolerance from public scrutiny, thus bigots can once again, freely express themselves with little (if not NO) consequence. Only one thing can be done to quell this distasteful epidemic, and that is to push society forward disregarding the dead weight that is holding us back. Sycophants like Rush Limbaugh, Fred Phelps and Manny Pacquiao are not worth the time or effort to “rehabilitate” thus it is better off we leave them in the swill they wallow in with hopes they fade into obscurity. We must march on to progress and forge a societal construct we can actually be proud of. In summation, ignorance is everywhere but true bliss rests within everybody who can exist within that reality and maintain their integrity in spite of whats going on around them!
